“Yeah, we should get going too.” Noah said as he and Rose stood up and left quietly sensing the tension and quite rightly wanting to get away from it all. That was the thing about Sienna and Logan, they were like fire, when they burned they burned bright drawing all the moths to the flame, everybody was magnetized to them, somehow intrigued and somewhat drawn to them because the love they had for each other and the giddy emotions of happiness was infectious. But sometimes some fires burn a little too bright, and the candle has to be snuffed out, and when it is all those little moths fly away back to the darkness in search of something anew.
That just left Bethany, Candice and Sienna at the table.
“Have you been taking your medication?” Candice asked worriedly.
“Yes, I wish everybody would stop asking me that!” Sienna growled then remembered it was actually time for her next dose. She sighed and took out her bottle of Thorazine and swallowed two round orange colored pills with a gulp of water. She almost instantly felt a little lightheaded and covered her eyes with her hand. Her vision was always blurred at first.
“I don’t understand. What did he do that was so wrong? Most girls would be thrilled that their boyfriend is trying to get them in to Harvard! I mean its Harvard for god’s sake! Who cares if his dad’s a senator and pulled a few strings to get you an early interview?” Candice asked conscientiously oblivious to the symptoms Sienna was experiencing. The entire cafeteria was nothing more than a bunch of shapes and colors all merged in to one. She blinked again and the fog cleared a little so she could see the look of disdain on her cousin’s face.
“Its not that.” She mumbled and hid her pills from no doubt prying curious eyes.
“Well what is it? God, Sienna, could you be more selfish or ungrateful?” Candice asked scornfully.
“Its not that! Of course I know what he’s doing is sweet and kind but we all have to get real I don’t have the brains for Harvard. Hell, I don’t think I’ll make it to any college let alone an Ivy League college. So please can we just drop this topic?”
“What? Would you please stop looking at me and sighing?” Sienna then added irritably. Candice rolled her eyes shaking her head condescendingly and stood up.
“I just think he deserves so much better, that’s all.” She sighed before leaving.
“Oh well good for you!” Sienna shouted after her not caring at all when everybody turned to look at the freak show that was Sienna Rivers.
“Word of advice?” Bethany Simmons suggested as she scooted over to her.
“No, thank you.” She replied briskly wishing she could hibernate in the library but knew she couldn’t leave until she regained all of her sight back.
“How long do you think it’s going to be until he grows tired of holding your hand and kissing your lips? I mean you’ve been dating for months and you haven’t had sex, that’s a bad sign in anybody’s book.” She smirked patronizingly.
“Not everybody is like you throwing yourself away for sex like pennies to a wishing fountain. No matter how many times you throw yourself at him, he’s not going to suddenly accept you and make all your dreams and wishes come true.” Sienna retorted.
“Oh yeah, don’t think I don’t see the way you look at him?” she added bluntly and rubbed her eyes relieved that her sight was almost back to its usual twenty twenty vision. Bethany’s mouth fell open in to a round ‘o’ but she quickly regained her usual bitchy composure.
“Good. I want you to see. I want you to watch as I take him away from you because the difference between you and I is-“
“Relatively sixty IQ points?” Sienna quipped swiftly.
“That unlike you, I always get what I want. I always win. And I want you to keep those freaky green eyes open and watch as you lose Logan to me due of your illness just like you lost your mommy to alcohol and your daddy to suicide and just like you’re going to lose your scholarship and valedictorian spot to Lee Young and miss out on college because you’re nothing more than a worthless bottom feeder.” She sneered. Her perfect glossy mouth then opened in to a wide smile revealing those seamless pearl white teeth Sienna so badly wanted to smash in but knew she couldn’t.
“Wow, you must really hate me. You like him a lot more than you let on…are you in love with Logan?” Sienna asked flabbergasted by what she had just discovered especially from the way Bethany suddenly blushed and looked uncomfortable.
“Love is for children.” She rolled her eyes not exactly answering the question, which in itself gave Sienna the answer she knew to be true.
“You know what? You can hate me secretly all you want and continue putting up this fake bitchy I’m your friend now Sienna but it won’t change anything. He won’t suddenly leap from me to you. You don’t know what we’ve been through. He loves me.” Sienna said confidently, now it was her turn to smirk because she knew it to be true.
“Trust me when I say this I know Logan Jackson more than you might realize. I know guys like him and sure he loves you, he’d have to be mad to put up with a schitzo girlfriend if he didn’t love her but at the end of the day a guy like Logan wants more and if you don’t give it to him, he’ll go out and get it.”
“From you presumably?” Sienna scoffed knowing he’d never touch her with a barge pole. He might have done before but that was history. Logan was a changed person. She was sure of it.
“Well let’s face it honey, you don’t kick a guy like him out of bed, now do you? Oh wait you wouldn’t understand. You take antipsychotic pills don’t you for schizophrenia?”
Bethany knew she did so Sienna didn’t bother affronting her with a response.
“Aren’t one of the side effects loss of sexual appetite? That’s funny. I thought it would take a lot of work breaking you two up but turns out I won’t have to do a damn thing, you and your mental illness will break you and Logan before I can say ‘Cherry’.” She whispered in that typical high pitched mean girl voice of hers before cackling and sauntering off before Sienna could think of a quick witted reply or snarky remark. She sashayed her perfect body in her skintight jeans purposefully as she walked causing all the boys in the courtyard to ogle and salivate from behind.
She knew she shouldn’t let Bethany’s taunts get to her but somehow the bitch had got herself in to her head. What if she were right?
